BIOGRAPHY

Luiz Paulo Chaves de Souza is a first-year doctoral student who is interested in health and science communication and its intersections with political communication. He is one of the recipients of the 四虎影视 Graduate Council鈥檚 Presidential Doctoral Fellowship. 

Luiz holds a Master of Science degree in Genetics from the University of S茫o Paulo and a Bachelor's in Biomedical Sciences from the Federal University of Uberl芒ndia. For the past couple years, he has worked as a reporter for Folha de S茫o Paulo and Veja magazine, two major media outlets in Brazil. In his PhD, Luiz aims to dive deeper into the theories of communication and work with faculty and colleagues to understand the role of health and scientific issues in highly polarized political contexts. 

Before starting his PhD at 四虎影视, he participated in the Journalism & Democracy Immersion Program organized by the Center for Sustainable Democracy. The two-weeks program took place in January 2024 and was sponsored by the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Brazil.
