Dr. Wenyu Guo is an Assistant Professor of Literacy Studies at the University of South Florida. She earned her Ph.D. in Teaching & Learning and Certificate of Graduate Study in Qualitative Research from the University of South Carolina with a focus on transnational & racial literacy, multicultural children’s literature, and qualitative research methodology.

Dr. Guo's research explores language and literacy practices of (im)migrant youth of Color and their families within transnational migration contexts. Drawing upon critical theories of literacy, Asian American Studies, and decolonization theories, Dr. Guo leverages community-engaged, participatory action research, and multi-sited empirical scholarship to promote anti-oppressive multiliteracies education in schools, homes, communities, and digital spaces for im/migrant and/or transnational youth and their families. Two of her research goals are: (a) exploring how transnational youth of Color and their families engage in sociopolitical and civic learning through literacies (e.g., reading, writing, digital practices), (b) examining (im)migrant parents/caregivers’ family literacy and their ethnic-racial socialization.

Her scholarship has appeared in journals such as the Bilingual Research Journal, The Reading Teacher, Journal of Children’s Literature, and The International Handbook of Literacies in Families and Communities, etc. Dr. Guo is an Early Career Educator of Color Leadership Award Fellow for the National Council for Teachers of English (NCTE). She is also deeply involved in educational and literacy organizations, serving as a Research Committee member for the Literacy Research Association (LRA) and the Children’s Literature Assembly of NCTE.

Beyond her research, Dr. Guo is dedicated to working with and within BIPOC communities through community-based service initiatives. In her current pr
