Research Experience for Undergraduates Program (REU)
The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program at the Bellini College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Computing was established in 2025, where undergraduate students can work very closely with a faculty mentor in many research areas at the Bellini College.
The REU program is designed to motivate undergraduate students to continue working toward their degrees and it provides preparation for Graduate School. University-wide, the newly created Office of Undergraduate Research runs an annual REU Symposium, publishes the Journal of Undergraduate Research and provides grant opportunities for faculty and students involved in undergraduate research.
CRA UR2PhD & REU Program
The 四虎影视 Bellini College has recently partnered with the program to offer research training courses to REU students and graduate research mentors:
The Bellini College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Computing is planning to offer awards of $500 to 20 undergraduate students (funding provided by FHTC) who successfully complete the CRA UR2PhD research training courses. Undergraduates will work in groups of 2-4 students on research projects under the guidance of a faculty mentor. The stipends will be provided by the college at the end of the semester after the successful completion of the training course. Additionally, graduate students can also participate as research mentors by taking the graduate mentor training courses and receive a $1,000 stipend provided by the CRA UR2PhD program.

UR2PhD significantly assisted me in conducting my research, and the summer course provided an excellent learning experience. I applied the knowledge I gained from the course to my research projects, which led me to publish both a workshop paper and a full paper as the first author.
I am particularly grateful for the financial support from UR2PhD, which enabled me to travel to Melbourne, Australia, to present my work. Additionally, the research opportunities fostered by UR2PhD have clarified my future aspirations. I plan to attend graduate school to earn a master鈥檚 degree in computer science and engineering, and thereafter, I aim to gain experience in robotics and AI by working for a leading company.
I would encourage new or potential UR2PhD participants to give research a chance. I understand that many students prefer to pursue internships over conducting research鈥擨 was one of them. However, you might be surprised by how much you enjoy research, and it could open up more opportunities for you than you might find in an internship.

The UR2PhD program transformed my research journey by teaching me essential skills like reading papers critically and conducting literature reviews while providing hands-on research experience with faculty mentorship. Beyond meeting my goal of gaining research experience, the program built my confidence as an underrepresented student in computing, connected me with a supportive peer network, and clarified my path toward graduate school.
The conference funding was particularly impactful, allowing me to present my work and realize I belonged in research spaces. I would absolutely recommend this program to other undergraduates, especially those from underrepresented groups, as it provides crucial mentorship and opportunities that bridge the gap between undergraduate coursework and graduate research. The program gave me the foundation and confidence needed to pursue a PhD in computing.

Being part of UR2PhD has been such a meaningful experience. I learned how to become a better researcher, gained confidence in the research process, and connected with so many inspiring people in the field.
After joining the program, I had the chance to present my work on the Misty storytelling robot at ICRA 2025, which was an unforgettable highlight. That experience truly motivated me to pursue a PhD. UR2PhD gave me the support and direction I didn鈥檛 even realize I needed, and I鈥檇 absolutely recommend it to other students.
